If you’ve worked in local government, you know that not all Parks & Gardens teams are created equal.
About Boroondara
At the City of Boroondara, we are committed to creating a sustainable and inclusive community. We are seeking a dedicated Horticultural Specialist to join our Open Space and Trees team. This is an opportunity to help care for some of Melbourne’s most valued parks, gardens and streetscapes while contributing to a high‑performing and customer‑focused organisation.
About the role
In this role, you will support the development, care and ongoing maintenance of Council’s parks, formal gardens, streetscapes, carparks and open spaces. You will apply best‑practice horticultural techniques to ensure our green spaces remain healthy, attractive and welcoming for residents and visitors. The role involves working collaboratively with colleagues across Council and engaging respectfully with contractors, community representatives and members of the public.
Key responsibilities
You will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing horticultural assets using high‑quality horticultural practices. You will regularly assess and prioritise work across multiple sites and ensure all areas meet required standards and maintenance schedules. The role includes monitoring and operating irrigation systems, conducting site audits, identifying redevelopment and planting opportunities, and maintaining minor plant and equipment. You will also uphold safe work procedures and contribute to creating a safe, well‑managed workplace.
About you
Here, you’ll be entrusted with your own geographic patch – a chance to take ownership, make decisions, and see your work come to life. You’ll be supported by a team that values skill, initiative, and collaboration, and you’ll enjoy the satisfaction of working on some of the most prestigious gardens in the country.
This is your opportunity to work in a team that’s proud of what it does and where your contribution will be visible every day – in gardens that are the envy of Melbourne.
