The Role
What you’ll do
Integrate advanced knowledge of local, national, and international evidence-based environmental health management and human health systems to anticipate, assess and address existing and potential risks to health from drinking water, recycled water, recreational water, water fluoridation and Legionella in building water systems.
Provide authoritative advice on the development, coordination, implementation, risk management and evaluation of state and national programs in regard to the control of public health risks from water.
Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of legislation and other public health interventions to support effective delivery of regulatory controls for risks to human health from water through multidisciplinary collaboration and the application of expert scientific and technical knowledge.
Use an expert level of environmental health scientific knowledge to develop and contribute to the development of evidence-based options to address current and emerging complex water-related environmental health issues of significance to the State and assess the implications of each option for public health research, policy, and practice.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
Possession of at least a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification that is accredited by the Australian Institute of Environmental Health which entitles the holder to membership of the discipline of Environmental Health Officer as specified in the Health Practitioners’ (Queensland Health) Certified Agreement (No. 2) 2011.
Demonstrated high-level knowledge, expertise, and skills to apply evidence-based principles and function as a state-wide environmental health resource, offering technical advice and consultation on complex water risk management issues with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to lead change through quality and service improvement projects and activities and provide clinical leadership within the environmental health discipline.
Demonstrated ability to lead, implement and manage investigations or research projects, and to critically analyse data.
High level oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a high performing team, communicate confidently to a range of audiences, from physicians, hospital executives to the general public, and undertake effective consultation processes.
Desirable qualifications for this role:
To meet the competencies required for this position, it is desirable that applicants have a higher degree in a relevant scientific discipline
