The Role
Title/Location/Employer:
Assistant Plantation Manager, Palm Creek Plantation, Mount Surround Qld, of Achacha Fruit Plantations
Reporting to:
Plantation Manager
Overview:
The incumbent will be responsible for assisting the Plantation Manager in all aspects of maintaining and managing the 101 ha 15,000 tree Achacha plantation. The plantation is certified organic and biodynamic with Freshcare certification also. Export sales are important and will need to be advanced. Whilst there is a large physical component in the role, significant planning, liaising, supervising, budgeting and creative thinking is also required as the plantation’s main product, the Achacha fruit, is new to the world market and was not available except in its country of origin, Bolivia, until grown and marketed by Achacha at Palm Creek Plantation. This is a permanent role, available immediately.
Activities will include but not be limited to the following:
- Development of export markets
- Irrigation of all trees
- Pump shed operation
- Pruning trees as and when required
- Maintenance of the total plantation including the two furnished houses and packing shed and surrounding garden areas
- Control and maintenance of the plantation’s mobile fleet, consisting of nine ATVs, three ride-on mowers, two large tractors with large slasher and eight fan sprayer, forklift, and other smaller items
- Maintenance of the plantation’s three km of internal roads
- Preparation of documentation for grant applications when appropriate
- Planning and executing an annual fertilisation program for the plantation
- Supervising a team of casual labourers as and when required for general field maintenance
- Organising and supervising the annual harvest with a casual workforce of approximately 30 persons
- Marketing of the Achacha fruit and research into finding new uses for it
- Liaising with agents in the wholesale markets of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne
- Arranging exports directly or through agents
Education / background requirements:
- A tertiary qualification indicating ability to work in a variety of related fields such as agriculture and particularly planning, economics and international sales / politics / management
- Knowledge of and experience in organic and biodynamic farming
- Excellent physical health and capability
Salary:
AUD60,000 – AUD65,000+
Summary:
The incumbent must be mature, physically capable, available to work long hours, creative and above all interested in the development and potential of a product which is new to the world market.

Pay: $60,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year
