Who are we?
EMU SPRINGS DAIRY PTY LTD is an industry leading dairy cattle farming business operated by three Australian families and based in Tintinara, regional South Australia. We currently milk around 980 cows at peak, producing over 7,5 million litres of milk, with milk primarily going to the Australian domestic market.
Position
We are seeking a FULL-TIME Dairy Cattle Farm Operator to work on our busy dairy cattle farm business.
Reporting to the Dairy Farm Manager the full-time Dairy Cattle Farm Operator will be responsible for all functions required for the successful day-to-day operations of the farm ‘s milking plant and equipment. This involves working in all aspects of milk production including assisting with the coordination of the feeding routine, monitoring quality assurance and ensuring compliance with all policies, procedures and legislative.
Main Tasks:
Operating milking plant and equipment in a safe manner, complying with safety standards.
Identifying and report equipment that is not operating normally
Working co-operatively as part of the team
Reading and recording instrument information, e.g. milk vat temp& cow numbers.
Maintaining records and data entry ensuring accurate information for stock and inventory
Understanding the principles of working safely on farm complying with safety standards.
Contributing to and implementing Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
Undertaking multiple functions, producing quality outcomes with farm machinery
Safely operating farm, dairy recycling system, shed vehicles, plant, and equipment.
Calf feeding daily, including tubing colostrum and colostrum collection.
Cleaning at feed shed and milking area and general farm cleaning
Trough maintenance cleaning up at feed lots.
Weight beef steers, bedding calf pens, calf collection and tubing.
Operate standard measuring equipment.
Maintaining machinery, undertaking adjustments, and size changes.
Solving problems and making decisions within given guidelines.
Know general scientific terminology and assist with processes such as machine repair, artificial insemination, fertiliser mix design etc.
Operate computerised systems using menu options.
Assisting with maintenance works on sheds, fixtures and fittings, fences and surrounds and installing new or replacement equipment or fittings.
Transporting, handling and storing chemicals; preparing and applying chemicals for spraying weeds.
Participating in training and safety sessions as required.
Contributing to the team in a specific role, providing input and assisting other team members.
Work at times without supervision.
Key requirements
At least an AQF certificate II or III (or equivalent); or
At least two (2) years of recent and relevant work experience if no formal qualifications available.
Must have minimum of two (2) years of recent and relevant work experience.
Driver licence C required, machinery experience preferable
Good work ethic and be a team player but must also be able to work independently.
Must have a very calm and mature nature, grounded personality
Able to demonstrate low stress stock handling skills and understanding of why they are important.
Must be physically fit, reliable and a hard worker, as long periods of standing and walking on concrete, and repetitive manual tasks especially with hands and upper body, and lifting heavy weights required.
Must be resilient and enjoy working outside in extremes of weather, due to working with large animals, exposure to dust and use of chemicals.
Requirement to wear PPE including motorbike helmet, gumboots, milking gloves, long periods of sitting (eg, in tractor) and operation of heavy machinery.
Requires early morning starts, late finishes, long shifts.
Requires acceptance of directions, accuracy and eye for details, punctuality, prioritising skills, empathy, flexibility to cope with change, handling pressure and stress.
Experience in the agricultural or horticultural industries, and an understanding of risks and challenges would be an advantage.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via phone, sms, interpersonally or by email, present ideas and to document activities; to source, read and interpret written information.
Remuneration
Emu Springs Dairy are pleased to offer a base salary in the range of $69,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation depending on work experience and qualifications.
The specific package will be offered depending upon the meeting of the above selection criteria and including past experience. Leave and other entitlements are paid as per the National Employment Standard (NES). Penalties and overtime paid at Pastoral Award 2020 rates.
