About the Role

Mackays Group is seeking a qualified and reliable Diesel Mechanic to join our on-farm maintenance team in Tully, QLD. This role is responsible for maintaining and repairing our heavy vehicle fleet to ensure minimal downtime and maximum efficiency. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality mechanical services to support the smooth operation of our agricultural business.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, your duties will include:

General Duties:

• Perform daily pre-start checks and follow all safety protocols
• Comply with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) and Environmental regulations
• Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment
• Work collaboratively as part of a team

Maintenance Duties:

• Service, maintain, and repair a fleet of heavy vehicles and machinery
• Diagnose faults in engines, transmissions, and components
• Dismantle and assess mechanical systems
• Replace worn parts and conduct scheduled maintenance (e.g., oil changes, engine tune-ups)
• Reassemble and test mechanical systems
• Use diagnostic computers and tools to assess performance
• Maintain up-to-date service records

Weekly Inspections Required For:

• Bagging machines
• Tractors and 4-wheelers used for bell injection
• Side-by-sides
• Cutting crew tractors
• Forklifts

Qualifications/Skills:

• Mechanical trade qualification
• Commitment to Workplace Health and Safety
• Knowledge of agricultural machinery and equipment
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to carry out mechanical and maintenance tasks independently
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new systems

Desirable Experience:

• Experience in a similar mechanic or maintenance role
• Previous experience on a farm or in an agricultural environment
• Boiler maker or fabrication skills
